Introduction

One of the best ways to experience Aruba isn’t by booking another beachfront restaurant—it’s by eating where the locals eat.

Step away from the hotel district and you’ll discover a completely different side of the island. Small family-run restaurants, neighborhood cafés, roadside food trucks, and hidden gems serving generous portions at prices that are often much lower than you’ll find in the resort area.

Aruba’s food culture is just as diverse as its people. With more than 90 nationalities living on the island, you’ll find influences from Aruba, Colombia, Suriname, China, the Caribbean, the Netherlands, and many more cultures—all within a short drive.

Some restaurants specialize in traditional Aruban dishes like keshi yena, stoba, pan bati, and fresh local fish, while others have become local favorites for Colombian comfort food, Surinamese classics, or authentic Chinese cuisine. It’s this mix of cultures that makes eating in Aruba so much fun.

This isn’t a list of the fanciest restaurants on the island.

These are the places where you’ll see families celebrating birthdays, construction workers grabbing lunch, friends meeting after work, and visitors who ventured beyond the resort area and found some of the best meals of their vacation.

If you really want to experience Aruba like a local, start with these restaurants.
